FSpace team has just completed another important milestone by successful performed the long range communication test of F-1 CubeSat to the ground station at a distance of 50km! The team carried the little satellite to top of Tam Dao mountain (about 1300m high), more than 50km from the ground station at FPT building in Hanoi. Despite of heavy fog and high humidity (which was very bad for radio communication) the ground station successfully sent uplink commands to F-1 and the satellite responded correspondingly, reporting its status and taking some photos. Ngày 14/2, các thành viên của nhóm FSpace, thuộc Viện nghiên cứu Công nghệ – ĐH FPT, đã sang Singapore nhận giải thưởng cuộc thi EADS Pilot Technology Solution Contest in Vietnam – Saving Fishermen Lives Against Typhoon” (Cứu ngư dân trước thảm họa bão). Trước đó, ngày 7/2, FSpace đã nhận được thông báo, nhóm đã giành giải Nhất cuộc thi “Cứu ngư dân trước thảm họa bão”, do EADS tổ chức lần đầu tiên tại Việt Nam. Taking the opportunity of launching F-1 into orbit in early 2012, FSpace team would like to offer the public a chance to send name to space. From September to mid November, FSpace team has been busy performing final tests on Engineering Model of F-1 CubeSat to make sure it will operate as planned. Among these, the long duration test under simulated sunlight is the most important because it helps us to understand the satellite’s behavior after a long operation time and to find bugs in the system. Lessons learned in developing EM will be applied for manufacture of the F-1 CubeSat Flight Model (FM).

Last week we brought F-1 CubeSat to a RF laboratory and a friend was kindly enough to help us measure F-1′s two dipole antennas (SWR ratio) and make some refinement.

Moon bounce (as known as Earth-Moon-Earth communication) is a communication technique first pioneered by US Navy after World War II (1946).
